ft. worth relay _14.jpg February 2001 Fort Worth Cowtown Marathon 3 Man Relay.
Team Name Two Okies and a Texan, Open Division.
I met John Reid on the Hal Higdon Website; he lives in the Coppell, Texas.
Picture info, L-R, Jackie, John, Me.
We stayed the night in Fort Worth, John came by the Motel room to get is packet and give us an opportunity to meet in person.
I had some symptoms of the flu but I didn't say anything, but if it was up to me I would not run tomorrow.
I am running the first leg, Jackie the second and John the third.
It is an early start and bad weather is on its way. The race announcer informs us that a storm front is approaching with high winds, rain and hail. He tells us to take cover if necessary.
I am lucky the weather is great during my leg of the relay but Jackie runs in strong south winds and heavy rain for a mile after his second leg of the relay begins.
After I turned it over to Jackie, we headed back the the motel to clean up and check out. On the way to the third changeover point we see that the winds blew off parts of an Apartment roof along the interstate.
I met John at the third relay change over point and saw him off as Jackie arrived.
We all headed back to the stock yards to see John cross the finish line.
We didn't place, but we had a great time, which is what it is all about.
When we returned home I discovered that I had a 104 degree temperature. I guess the adrenaline of the race kept me going but when it was over I was wasted.

2001 arts classic half marathon_after halfway point.jpgMarch 31, 2001, Norman, Oklahoma, home of the University of Oklahoma. This was the last year for this run which was part of a series which included the Red Bud Classic in Oklahoma City.
We arrived early, it was very cool and cloudy, but when the race began the temps began to rise. My black shirt was too warm.
The race start near the OU football stadium and ends on the 50 yard line, which was quite exciting, Competition was stiff.
Finish time: 1:51:08, 21/48 Male AG, 119/287 overall Male.
